From 1217, Bergen was the royal residence and the capital city of Norway in the 13th century. In 1230, German merchants were granted the first trading privileges. Under the influence of the Hanseatic League, Bergen developed into an important trading post.
The stock exchange was built in Bergen in 1862 using the traditional Hanseatic material of Obernkirchener Sandstein®. Today, several restaurants and the tourist information office are located in the building.
